A collection of medals marking milestones, effort, and the thrill of competition.
These four Junior Olympics medals represent some of the proudest moments of my competitive swimming career. I qualified for the Michigan Red Zone Junior Olympics twice—an achievement in itself—and each time felt like stepping into the “big leagues.” At the East Grand Rapids meet, I competed in the 100 butterfly, the 50 breaststroke, and two relays: the 400 IM relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Even though I was nervous before each race, the second I hit the water the fear disappeared. I swam hard, placed well, and brought home medals that proved how many early mornings, grueling practices, and seasons of dedication were worth it.
Beyond the results, these medals carry memories of an experience that shaped me. Very few of my teammates qualified, so those of us who did felt like we were part of something special. Between races, we cheered each other on; after the meet, we explored Grand Rapids, shopped, and celebrated over good food. These medals aren’t just awards—they’re reminders of the moments that made me feel strong, capable, and endlessly proud of the swimmer I became.
